FROM THE CHIEF'S DESK........

    Looking Forward

As our community moves out of the restrictions endured the last several weeks, we all look forward to a slow return to normal.
Around Deschutes County various communities have managed the restrictions with various attitudes.   While some individuals were extreme in their personal interpretation of the restrictions, others were cavalier in their behavior.  Fortunately, there were few in either category.
Government officials took the approach that we all need to restrict movement to protect the more susceptible individuals.  As we learn more about this virus, we learn more about who is vulnerable. What individuals have better control of is protecting themselves.  In Law Enforcement (and other professions) we embrace the concept of protect yourself first.  You can’t take care of anyone else if you don’t take care of you.
We often get upset when we are trying to control another individual’s behavior.  It can be frustrating when you see people not practicing social distancing but as individuals, we have control over our own ability to maintain social distancing.
While county-wide we have seen behaviors at both ends of the spectrum, members of our community have been better tempered.  We have had few complaints of individuals behaving inappropriately.  Those that we have contacted were very cooperative and were household members.
As restrictions relax everyone should continue to take care of themselves, their families and their loved ones.

    Be safe and stay healthy!
